Large exports to Excel now work, big result sets are quicker to switch between, each tab keeps its own column layout and row limit, and short codes can be edited.

Exports and large results

  • Excel export rebuilt for large results — exporting a big result to Excel used to freeze the app or fail outright at around 150,000 rows. The workbook is now written by the app’s native engine and streams straight to disk, so a 150,000-row export completes in a few seconds. Numbers still land as typed Number cells with your chosen formats, long IDs keep every digit, and 16-digit and longer integers stay as text so nothing is rounded.
  • A result larger than Excel’s 1,048,575-row ceiling now gets a plain message suggesting CSV instead of a failed file.
  • Large exports show an “Exporting…” notice, and the Export button is disabled while one is running so a second click can’t start another.
  • Faster return to a large tab — switching back to a tab holding a big result no longer re-reads the whole result each time. On a 150,000-row result that removed about a second and a half from every switch.

Results grid

  • Each tab keeps its own column layout — drag columns into the order you want, including formula columns, switch to another tab and back, and they stay where you put them. Previously the order snapped back when the other tab had different columns, and two tabs running the same query silently shared one layout.

Row limit

  • Row limit is now per tab, and every new tab starts at 200. It used to be one setting for the whole app, so choosing No limit once quietly applied to every later tab and session. Duplicating a tab copies its limit.
  • With No limit selected, the limit pill in the command bar turns amber with a warning icon, and the picker shows a note explaining that unbounded queries can run for a long time or time out.

SQL editor

  • Wrap in function — select a column, right-click and choose Wrap in function, or press Ctrl+., to wrap it in TO_CHAR, NVL, TRUNC and other common functions with an alias filled in for you. Also available from the Editor menu.
  • Short codes can be edited — each short code in Editor → Short codes… now has an Edit button. Rename a trigger, change its expansion, or add a description without deleting and re-adding it. Expansions can span several lines (Shift+Enter inserts a line break), and adding a trigger that already exists is refused rather than silently overwriting it.
  • The short-codes Reset to defaults button previously did nothing inside the app; it now asks for confirmation inline and resets.

Connections

  • Copy instance URL — right-click a connection (or open its ⋯ menu) and choose Copy instance URL to put the Fusion URL on the clipboard.

Appearance

  • Settings → Application shows colour themes as a dropdown with a live preview tile instead of a grid of cards.
  • The Default theme is now called Collage. Your saved choice carries over; only the name changed.
  • The highlighted row in the editor’s suggestion list was unreadable in light mode on Cobalt on Slate; it now uses a solid accent fill.
  • The Run menu is removed from the menu bar — F5, Ctrl+Enter and the Run button already cover it.

Colour themes you can pick from, a results grid that is nicer to filter, a guard against re-running the same query by accident, and clearer messages when a connection fails.

New features

  • Colour themes — alongside the default look, choose Fjord, Cobalt on Slate, or Plum on Graphite from Settings → Application. Each works in both dark and light mode and re-themes the editor, grid, and dialogs together. The SQL editor font picker gains a Theme default option that follows the colour theme; all theme fonts ship with the app.
  • Active filter pills — every column filter you apply shows as a pill above the grid. Clear one filter with its ×, or all of them with Clear all. When many columns are filtered the strip collapses to a “+N more” count.
  • Reuse recent results — run the same query on the same connection within five minutes and Data Collage asks whether to Use existing results or Fetch from Fusion again, so an accidental double-click doesn’t re-execute a long query.

Connections

  • Test Connection now explains sign-in failures plainly (wrong password, expired session, HTTP 401 / 403) instead of showing a raw gateway response.
  • If the account lacks the BI Publisher catalog roles needed to deploy the gateway report, the test stops immediately with a message naming the missing permission rather than retrying until it times out.
  • For a new basic-auth connection the Test connection button stays disabled until a password is entered.

Fixes

  • The column filter popup no longer closes while you are typing in it.
  • A query ending in a closing */ comment on its own line no longer fails with ORA-01742.
  • Use existing results re-applies the query’s --@ directives (hidden columns, column order, formats) to the reused grid.
  • On macOS the update dialog no longer offers the Windows-only Retry as Administrator button.

UI polish

  • Tab strip: each tab carries its connection’s environment colour, with the connection name on hover; the strip scrolls with the mouse wheel and reveals a scrollbar only on hover.
  • Closing a tab selects the tab to its left, matching most editors.
  • Scrollbars throughout the app pick up the theme accent colour.

Version 1.1.1

August 2026

A small follow-up to 1.1.0 focused on updates: installs in Program Files can now update themselves, and IT teams get a switch to turn auto-update off.

Updates

  • If Data Collage was installed into Program Files (for example by running the installer as an administrator), it can now update itself. Previously these installs silently failed to update — you had to download and re-run the installer by hand.
  • When an update needs administrator rights, the update dialog shows a shield icon. Click it and Windows asks for permission once, the update installs, and the app reopens normally.
  • If an update fails because of a permissions problem, you get a Retry as Administrator button instead of a dead end.
  • Declining the Windows permission prompt no longer leaves the app in a strange state — you see a clear message and keep working.

For IT teams

  • New auto-update off switch for managed deployments. Set a single Windows registry value and Data Collage stops checking for updates — both the quiet check at startup and the manual Help → Check for updates. Users see a short “updates are managed by your organization” note instead. Details are in the Install & Launch guide.

Housekeeping

  • Version moved from 1.1.0 to 1.1.1 rather than re-issuing 1.1.0, so that every installed copy picks up the fix through the normal update path.

The first feature release after launch: smarter query tools, analyses that remember more of your setup, better dates and numbers, and a big round of polish.

New features

  • Generate SELECT from visible columns — one click in the results toolbar turns a SELECT * into an explicit column list that matches exactly what you see in the grid.
  • Validate SQL — check that a query parses correctly on the server without actually running it. Validation runs don’t appear in your history.
  • “Filter as” per column — when the grid guesses a column’s type wrong, force its filter to text, number, or date straight from the column header.
  • Analyses remember your grid filters and sorts — open a saved analysis and the grid comes back filtered and sorted the way you left it.
  • Analyses remember Top N and Duplicates — those settings are saved with the analysis and restored on open.
  • :xdo_user_name support — queries can now use the same data-security scoping (business unit, inventory org, ledger) that BI Publisher reports get, resolved on the server for the signed-in user.

Fixes

  • Date columns no longer shift by a day depending on your timezone; the “Clear” format shows the raw value as-is.
  • Top N now ranks numbers as numbers (not text), and only considers rows that pass your active filters.
  • Renaming an analysis keeps its saved filters and sorts.
  • Hidden columns stay hidden when you re-run an analysis.
  • Empty dates from BI Publisher now display as blank and are picked up by Hide Empty Columns.
  • Excel export keeps very long numeric IDs (16+ digits) intact instead of rounding them.
  • Toast notifications dismiss on time, and close immediately when you click their action.
  • The grid scrolls back to the first column whenever a new result set arrives.
  • Running a selection that contains more than one statement is now blocked with a clear explanation instead of a confusing error.

Error handling

  • Oracle errors such as ORA-00904 now highlight the offending name directly in the editor, and gateway noise is stripped from the message so you see only what matters.

UI polish

  • Grid right-click menus reorganized with section headers and submenus.
  • Per-column filter clear, and a filter popup that matches the app theme.
  • Instant, themed tooltips throughout.
  • Analyses panel: icon-only actions, right-aligned, with a themed delete confirmation.
  • Query Library and Query History drawers close after you pick something; new Open icon.
  • Results toolbar decluttered — the duplicate row count, timing, and connection labels are gone from the toolbar.
  • Connection project groups start collapsed.
  • Help → Documentation now opens this docs site.

What's coming Roadmap

Not a promise of dates — but this is what we're working on next, roughly in order.

AI Assist (2.0)

Describe what you need in plain English and get a starting query — grounded in the bundled Fusion metadata so it knows your tables. Bring your own OpenAI, Anthropic or Gemini key, or run locally with Ollama. Opt-in per user, and never sends your result data anywhere. IT teams can disable the feature fleet-wide with a registry value alongside the existing DisableAutoUpdate switch, so it can be rolled out only where an AI provider has been approved.

Richer formula columns

Text operations, date arithmetic, comparisons, and IF / CASE-style conditionals in formula columns — today they are numeric only.
