Before You Begin
A few things to line up before you install Data Collage. None of them take more than a couple of minutes, and getting them sorted now saves a round of “wait, who do I ask for that?” later.
System
Section titled “System”- Operating system — a Windows machine (Windows 10 or 11). macOS and Linux are on the roadmap; for V1, Windows only.
- Admin rights — not required. The installer runs in user-mode and writes to your local profile, so you don’t need IT to install it for you.
Network access
Section titled “Network access”- Your machine must be able to reach your Fusion URL over HTTPS. The easiest way to confirm: open your Fusion home page in a browser on the same machine. If it loads, you’re good.
- If you’re behind a corporate proxy or VPN that restricts desktop applications from reaching the internet, talk to your IT team about whitelisting your Fusion hostname for Data Collage. (The app makes the same kind of HTTPS requests your browser does when you use Fusion.)
Fusion account and BI Publisher access
Section titled “Fusion account and BI Publisher access”You’ll need:
- Login credentials for your Fusion instance — a username and password (for Basic authentication) or working SSO access.
- BI Publisher access — your Fusion user must be able to upload and run BI Publisher data models and reports in the BI Publisher Catalog. The first time you Test a connection, Data Collage uploads its own data model and report into a private folder under your user’s catalog space — so plain “read existing reports” access isn’t enough.
Data Collage runs your SQL through your Fusion instance’s standard BI Publisher reporting layer. That’s why the BI Publisher access matters — without upload privileges, the app has no way to deploy its gateway, and without run privileges, no way to query.
The exact Fusion role names that grant this access vary by customer (most organizations use custom roles built on Oracle’s defaults). If you’re not sure what you have, ask whoever administers your Fusion environment.
License key
Section titled “License key”Data Collage is licensed software — you’ll need a valid license to activate it.
To get your license:
- Install Data Collage and launch it for the first time (see §3 — Install & Launch).
- The activation screen will display a unique Machine ID for your computer.
- Email that Machine ID to datacollage@newarcinc.com, along with the email address you’d like associated with your license.
- The Newarc team will activate your license and reply with both the email address (the one you proposed, normalized) and a license key.
- Enter both values in the activation screen — exactly as Newarc returned them — to unlock the app.
The Machine ID is tied to the specific computer you installed on. If you switch machines, email us again and we’ll reactivate.
Pre-flight checklist
Section titled “Pre-flight checklist”Before you move on to install, confirm that you can:
- Log into your Fusion instance in your browser
- Upload and run a BI Publisher report or data model in the BI Publisher Catalog
- Reach your Fusion URL from the Windows machine you’ll install Data Collage on
If all three are yes, you’re ready for §3 — Install & Launch.
